Etowah High School Girls Lacrosse Skills Camp Curriculum

What you will learn

Individual Skills

OFFENSE:

Stick skills:  Proper passing and catching techniques is a MUST!!!

Pass and catch with both hands on the run at full speed while under pressure. Players will learn a 20-minute wall-ball work out and receive a printout of the workout to assist with memorization and a reminder to strive to do the workout every day.

Stick protection: Changing speed, changing cradling positions, cradle tempo, body and stick position (think shoulder shoulder ball).

Ground balls:  Technique, body position, stick position and communication.

Draws:  Center's options - push, pull, draw to self, placing with a selected teammate/or location.

On the circle players - positioning, box out, outlet options, getting up field, marking up.
Restraining line players - drop back/cross over, marking up, goal side, safety, options.

Free Position Shooting: Free shot after a penalty.

Draw and dump: Pull two defenders in and dump ball to adjacent player.

Shooting:

Outside shots: Increase accuracy and velocity through proper mechanics: hand position, arm extension, shoulder rotation, putting legs into the shot and following through with the wrists.

On-the-run shots: Concentration is on footwork during and after the shot. Focus is on the back-peddle steps after the shot which insures proper shoulder rotation during the shot.

Inside shots: We teach Position (on the field and of stick head to increase angle), Placement (of shot), Stick fakes, head and shoulder fakes, Protection (stick protection), Patience and (how to) Practice.

Advanced inside shots: Quick stick, mini hands, twister, behind the back, and side shovel shots.

Dodging:  Players work on perfecting several dodges. When and where to execute the dodges most effectively on the field. Players are taught to not predetermine their dodges and instead execute the dodge that counters their defender's approach.

Dodges from behind the goal: inside roll, rocker, and question mark

Dodges from the wing: split/face dodge, roll dodge

Dodges from up top: face, pump fake, split

Double dodges: Face to split, split to roll

DEFENSE:
